SHEPPARD W. KING
Texas cotton magnate who later became involved in the oil business with offices in New Orleans, Milan and Liverpool.

Mansion Hotel:  Former home of the King family - a Five Star establishment.

This extraordinary Italian Renaissance style residence was originally built by King in 1925, and restored to even more than its original splendor in 1982.  The King Mansion is long known throughout the South for its parties and social gatherings.

The magnificent free-standing stairway was considered such an engineering feat that contractors from St. Louis, Kansas City and Denver came to witness its construction.  The solid bedrock Texas limestone nine-foot deep basement, originally the “Silver Vault,” now serves as a pink, stucco-covered Wine Cellar.

The Mansion is situated on nearly five acres of lush hillside.  The stairway, marble floors, inlaid wood ceilings, stained glass windows, European hand-carved gilded doors and intricate ceilings remain the historical foundation of one of the most stunning and gracious settings of our time.

Accommodations:
128 guest rooms and 14 suites complete with marble baths, and butler-style room service.  Each room reflects refined classic distinction in rich soothing tones and hues - highlighted with antiques, original art and fresh flowers.  Lavish suites feature separate living and dining areas, and sumptuous, oversized bathrooms.  French doors open to private terraces.

Features:
Heated outdoor pool; health club with state-of-the-art exercise equipment, a sauna, steam bath and whirlpool.  Meeting facilities, and five private salons.  The Pavilion Ballroom accommodates up to 200 guests, while the Wine Cellar is ideal for intimate dinner gatherings.  Award winning restaurant features Chef Dean Fearing, who pioneered the art of Southwestern cuisine.  Fearing creates culinary masterpieces from ingredients indigenous to the region.  Antique shops, art galleries, boutiques, theater and art districts are minutes away.
