ADMIRAL ROBERT E. PEARY
American explorer, taxidermist, civil engineer and author; most famous for 8 arctic voyages by the Greenland coast.   Finally on April 6, 1806, Peary attained his goal as the first to reach the North Pole.

It was here that Peary lived just prior to his great and famous exploration surveying for the Panama Canal.  It was here that he stuffed birds for a living and devoted hours to charting maps and discussing voyages with his wife, mother and friends.
